Introduction

Hello, everyone! My name is Kelsey Branson and I am a Senior at the University of Oklahoma.

I have changed my major five times, and I am currently majoring in public relations and minoring in interior design. This is the degree I will graduate with because college is expensive. But even with changing my major, I still get to graduate on time! Eventually, I would like to be an event coordinator/planner and manage events ranging from the corporate realm to social gatherings.

I am also extremely passionate about music, marching band and performing. I am in the Pride of Oklahoma and I play the saxophone. However, my primary instrument is bassoon. I also participate in Drum Corps International over the summer, touring the country and performing a marching show. For this I do colorguard. One of my favorite aspects of DCI is that we get to perform for thousands of people at a time with the people who become our family by our side.

I love people! One of my favorite things to do is to listen to people talk about their passions. It thrills me when someone is discussing something that means so much to them. The way people's eyes light up and the excitement in their voices makes me extremely happy.

One of my biggest pet peeves is being able to hear people eat. This doesn't always bother me, but when it does I absolutely can't stand it.

The most important thing to me is my family. Without them, I would not be the person I am today. They have given me so much guidance, support and love throughout my life and I hope to pass that on to my own family and children some day.

My roommates are pretty much my second family. Here we all are!

My favorite quote is the following:
"No, we won't think noble because we're not noble. We won't live in beautiful harmony because there's no such thing in this world, nor should there be. We promise only to do our best and to live out our lives, dear God, that's all we can promise in truth."

This is from the operetta Candide, composed by Leonard Bernstein. The quote means more to me with each passing day and I try to live my life by those words. I try to do my best and to live out my life with no regrets and realize that that is the best I can do.

I hope to get to know you all! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

  1. Wow, Kelsey, what a great quote from Candide! And you know, Candide would actually make a really cool topic for a Storybook, since it kind of like a parable, a timeless sort of wisdom story. So you might think about that: there would be so many ways to tell Candide as a series of stories in your own way, and I am sure that people in class would enjoy getting to know Candide and Professor Pangloss. You can find English translations online easily; here's one:
    Candide... online at Project Gutenberg

Anyway, that might be something to think about as you start brainstorming possible topics next week. It would be such a great contribution to the class, and it might be fun for you too since it would let you explore the rich meaning of that quote in the form of STORIES. :-)

  2. I have changed my major maybe 2 times and I thought that was absurd. I'm still in the same field just a different focus each time. I thought I was the only person that was driven crazy by the sound of people eating. I see that I am not longer alone and I thank you for that. I unfortunately have never been able to play an instrument. My focus all my life has been sports. I have also been envious of people who could. I also have an interest in planning things. I have no idea why, but I love organization to an extent.

  3. Hi Kelsey,
I'm actually a Public Relations major too! But I have a minor in Spanish. It's awesome that you're a people person and want to work in events because then you're in the perfect field. I love that quote that you shared. I have a special section in my iPhone notes that I put quotes that are special to me, so I love to hear about quotes that other people enjoy. Have a great semester!!

  4. Hey Kelsey, I understand the struggle of deciding what study! I to had that problem and changed my Major. I also like talking people about something they are passionate about. It really brings out the character in someone when they talk about these things and you get to know them more clearly. I to believe family is something of great importance in ones life.

  5. Hey Kels!
Crazy meeting you here! I'm glad I was able to help you decide at least two of your 5 majors during your college career. I hope you can graduate on time with the rest of us! Anyways, I'm glad we are both taking this class together and we can talk about everything that's going on in the class.

  6. Hey Kelsey,
Wow changed 5 times that is crazy! I've changed my major once and it was a pain in my rear so I feel for you haha, but it is good that you have finally settled on your major and I hope you love it! I've actually heard of DCI, someone I went to high school with was in it for a while and he was really into it! I also feel your pain on the hearing people eat, it is so annoying especially when it is quite in the room and all you can hear is them chewing. Good luck on your senior year!

  7. Hello Kelsey,
It's crazy that you changed your major five times, but I am glad that you found one to help you with your future career. You definitely have to love people to be able to plan events for them!
It is nice that you know how to play an instrument. I am not any type of artistically talented and I find my happiness within the sciences. I hope everything goes well this semester!

  8. Hi Kelsey! It was great to read your post and get to know more about you. A few of my friends were in marching band in high school and one is in the Pride too so it's cool that you're so involved in it! I also have to address your pet peeve because it's one of my biggest pet peeves too! Haha. It bothers me a lot as well. Family is so important to me as well so I'm glad it is for you too. I honestly don't know where I would be without them always having my back!

Well, it was nice meeting you!

  9. Hi Kelsey, I think is actually really cool that you have changed your major so many times. It is hard to know what you want to do, and I think it is awesome that you have tried so many things, and were able to realize that some of them were not for you. I really hope you can graduate on time! Pride has always seemed so interesting to me, but I know it is hard work!

  10. Hey Kelsey,

It sounds like you are having a great time in college! Events planning always sounded really fun to me too! In fact, one of my friends helps out with the OKC Thunder with events planning. That would be one of my dream jobs, too, so keep reaching for that goal! That’s really awesome that you are in the Pride of Oklahoma, too! I’m always amazed at the performances they put on at the football games. Also, keeping your family first is very important and can show a lot about someone’s character so it’s great that you want to teach your kids that someday! It’s great to meet you and I hope you have an amazing semester! ☺

  11. Hi Kelsey,
It’s cool that you continued on with playing an instrument after high school. I know so many people who stop after they graduate. Your chose a really fascinating quote as your favorite. I like how it goes beyond just saying live without regrets, but still has that same sentiment. I’m like you in that I love people. I am definitely a people person. It is always so interesting talking to new people and hearing what all they have to say.

  12. Hi Kelsey!

It was so nice to read your introduction. I loved how you threw in random facts like your pet peeve. I also loved the quote that you threw in. I feel like not many people did stuff like that. I know that the pride is such a commitment to do! You guys have to practice so much. On top of that you have to wear those hot uniforms to all the games! Your major and minor sound quite interesting, I wish you the best in graduating on time!

  13. Hiii. Five times! Thats a lot of majors. You must be versatile. You know I'm all about that bassoon that bassoon no treble, haha feel me? Just kidding. I love music too, even like epic gladiator type music to some cool battle scenes or something, kinda random I know. I'm a graphic designer, so I am very familiar with public relations, and interior design is another type of design soooo dope haha. I loved your fav quote. It is like dark and hopeful at the same time. Deep. Anyway, hope all goes well this semester.

  14. Hey Kelsey! I can't believe it is week 9 and there are still people who I have not read their introductions. Nice to meet you finally, well as close as its going to get for this class since its online. That is awesome you have changed your major 5 times and are still going to be able to graduate on time. There are definitely people jealous of you out there. I have changed mine once, and get to graduate on time too so thats a plus. Getting to travel over the summer doing something you love is awesome! I love to travel, and getting to do it with people you enjoy and doing things you enjoy is a bonus!

  15. Hey Kelsey! It is so nice to be introduced to you. I really enjoyed your introduction and reading about your passions! I could really tell how passionate you were about music and band and your family through your writing, and that is always so great. Also, good on you for still graduating on time even though your major changed so much. I've heard so many horror stories about college taking way longer because of issues like that!

  16. Hi Kelsey,

I, too, am a Public Relations major. Instead of getting a minor, I decided to double major in PR and Letters. Really cool to see others who study PR in this class. Are you taking capstone this semester? It's really sweet that you get to spend time doing what you love playing for The Pride. Oh, and your pet peeve, I strongly dislike hearing people eat too! Much like yours, it depends on if it is annoying me at the time, but the one thing I can never handle is when people eat ice!! It was nice meeting you and I hope you're having a wonderful semester!

  17. I love the quote that you put at the end! I also think that it is so important to live each day to the fullest. It really amazing that you have changed your major so many times and can still graduate on time! Kudos to you, that is awesome. I know some people in the Pride and I know it is no joke. It requires a lot of time and work, so I can tell you are a driven person. I bet it is awesome getting to be a part of all the OU gamedays. Enjoy the rest of the semester!

  18. Hi, Kelsey!
Your introduction had me laughing almost immediately with the “college is expensive” comment—I feel ya there, girl! I think it’s awesome that you’re still able to graduate on time after changing your major. That’s a pretty awesome feat. I crammed four years of college into three because the thought of paying for that last year was totally panic inducing. Cheers to tuition!
It’s really cool that you’re in the band! I have so much respect for people who are musically inclined. I bet performing in front of so many people is such a thrill.
It was so nice getting to know you, and I hope you have a fantastic rest of your year!

  19. Hey Kelsey!

Looks like you stay really busy! Family is always a very important thing to me, too. I also love Rangers game! That is something my family and I love to do in the summer and tailgate before the games in the parking lots. Don’t worry about changing your major too many times, sometimes all you need is a degree in something and you’ll figure out what you love even if that’s not what you initially got your degree in. Good luck on the rest of the semester!
